24 Cash Back Sites and Apps Worthy of Your Attention in 2024

Editorial Note:

Updated: January 11, 2024

You’ve probably known all about cashback via credit card or even debit cards. Did you know that in addition to credit card cashback, you can use extra cash via cashback sites and apps?

That’s right; you can stagger the rewards, earn your credit card points, and cash back from a website.

You’ve probably heard of such cash-back sites as Rakuten, Ibotta, or TopCashback. These websites return you a percentage of what you spend while shopping. Let’s explore the list of cashback websites, find out how they work, and how to choose the one that gives you the best redemption rate.

How Do Cash Back Apps and Sites Work?

Affiliate Fee Split

You may wonder where this cash comes from. Cashback apps and sites work with retailers and are paid an affiliate fee to refer customers. These sites then share a portion of their affiliate revenue with people who use them to make purchases.

Cash Back Process

  • Sign up for a free membership on a cash-back website that you like.
  • Instead of visiting a retailer’s website, sign in to this cash-back site or use an app (most cash-back sites offer apps).
  • Click on the link that takes you to your favorite retailer’s site.
  • Shop as usual.
  • The cashback website verifies your transaction, and your cashback reward gets approved.

How much money you get depends on the total amount of money you spend and the website’s offers. The percentage of the affiliate fee also varies by the retailer.

Different Payouts

Some websites and apps that allow you to earn cash back work differently. Be sure to study the process carefully before signing up for the membership.

What to Consider While Choosing Cash Back Sites and Apps

  • Minimum payout amount: You often need to spend a threshold amount of money on purchases before receiving the cashback. The amount varies by site.
  • Payout periods: Each website has a different payout period.
  • Payout methods: Some websites allow you to get cash through gift cards; others can send you a check or cash via PayPal.
  • Selection of retailers: Some cash-back sites only work with a limited amount of retailers.

Don’t Buy Stuff Just for the Points

It’s great when you can get cash back while shopping. However, you are not “earning” anything when you use cash-back apps or sites. You are just trying to recoup some of the money spent. Remember that to build wealth, you need to spend less and save more. Try to stay disciplined with money and form healthy spending habits.

Ekaterina Redko

I have always wanted to live a full life without stressing out about money. After finishing university, I started work and soon realized that my salary didn’t match the kind of life I wanted. I took a side hustle, hoping it would make me wealthier – it didn’t. I still had to live paycheck to paycheck. Why? I wanted to figure this out and did it.

The truth is that it is not the amount of money that makes you wealthy, but the way you manage it.  My problem was the lack of proper spending habits and discipline with money. I created a  budget and started saving. Budgeting took me a lot of time and effort, but that was worth it.

Now I understand that how much you save is way more important than how much you earn. Saving is one of the core principles of building wealth and achieving financial independence.

With Financial Freedom Guru, I’d like to share my knowledge and experience of managing money and building wealth. I hope that together we’ll manage to pave the way towards Financial Freedom.

Shopkick is one of my favorites. You can get points for walking in to stores, more points for scanning certain items, and more for scanning receipts if you buy certain products. They pay out in gift cards and not cash but there’s quite a variety to choose from including Walmart, Amazon, Target, Lowe’s, etc

I have a coworker that shopkicks so hard. She literally bought a brand new 70 inch TV with her shopkicks rewards and still had points leftover!

I use fetch rewards and earn about $20 a year. I also love Swagbucks but have only really made money with their surveys. Over $60 in the past year.

Google Opinion Rewards surveys don’t earn much, but a quarter here and there can add up to free ebooks or games over time.

I’m a huge fan of this, actually. I use it to rent movies that take too long to come to streaming services or buy seasons of shows that I like (but won’t get cable or a streaming service to watch). The e-books are great too.

Shoppix, HuYu, Storewards, snap my eats, zipzero. I’ve had payouts on all of them. Some won’t accept receipts from everywhere but I just upload all receipts if they don’t accept it that’s fine.

This is a good idea. I’ve missed a trick there, only been photographing on one app.
