How Do Cash Back Apps and Sites Work?
Affiliate Fee Split
You may wonder where this cash comes from. Cashback apps and sites work with retailers and are paid an affiliate fee to refer customers. These sites then share a portion of their affiliate revenue with people who use them to make purchases.
Cash Back Process
- Sign up for a free membership on a cash-back website that you like.
- Instead of visiting a retailer’s website, sign in to this cash-back site or use an app (most cash-back sites offer apps).
- Click on the link that takes you to your favorite retailer’s site.
- Shop as usual.
- The cashback website verifies your transaction, and your cashback reward gets approved.
How much money you get depends on the total amount of money you spend and the website’s offers. The percentage of the affiliate fee also varies by the retailer.
Different Payouts
Some websites and apps that allow you to earn cash back work differently. Be sure to study the process carefully before signing up for the membership.

- Payout methods: Some websites allow you to get cash through gift cards; others can send you a check or cash via PayPal.
- Selection of retailers: Some cash-back sites only work with a limited amount of retailers.
Don’t Buy Stuff Just for the Points
It’s great when you can get cash back while shopping. However, you are not “earning” anything when you use cash-back apps or sites. You are just trying to recoup some of the money spent. Remember that to build wealth, you need to spend less and save more. Try to stay disciplined with money and form healthy spending habits.
TopCashback is absolutely brilliant. I check for absolutely everything on it if buy it online
Awesome would need to check it out as well! More Cashback more better!
Quidco is my top. I’ve had over 200 since March xx
Wow, that’s nice, how much did you spend to get that much back?
I use Topcashback and scan my receipts at shoppix
Interesting, thank you for the insight Karen!
My favourite – ShopKick. But I am strict with myself and only but if i think I’ll like and the reward is high enough
Well, you shouldn’t be buying stuff just to get cashback, that is the rule number one just buy what you need!
I do swagbucks surveys but get addition points for uploading my receipts.
Thanks for sharing Rachel, so many ways to earn cashback these days!
Was mostly using boom25 but since covid, the pay back isn’t so good, so using quidco until it gets more back to normal
Thank you for your insight Michel. Will need to check out these cash back apps
Shopkick is one of my favorites. You can get points for walking in to stores, more points for scanning certain items, and more for scanning receipts if you buy certain products. They pay out in gift cards and not cash but there’s quite a variety to choose from including Walmart, Amazon, Target, Lowe’s, etc
I have a coworker that shopkicks so hard. She literally bought a brand new 70 inch TV with her shopkicks rewards and still had points leftover!
I absolutely love swag bucks..it has helped me pay for Christmas for the last couple years
Fetch Reward is quick and easy. Rakuten (previously Ebates). We order ink, meds, etc…
I use fetch rewards and earn about $20 a year. I also love Swagbucks but have only really made money with their surveys. Over $60 in the past year.
Google Opinion Rewards surveys don’t earn much, but a quarter here and there can add up to free ebooks or games over time.
I’m a huge fan of this, actually. I use it to rent movies that take too long to come to streaming services or buy seasons of shows that I like (but won’t get cable or a streaming service to watch). The e-books are great too.
I use receipt hog, ibotta and fetch. I love receipt hog because they take just about any kind of receipts and give points.
Fetch and Ibotta have referral programs that give you extra points for your first receipt as well
I love ibotta, anything that is easy money is always a plus in my book!
I mostly use shopprize, panel app and VYPR
Storewards not accepting at present, maybe the same for shoppix
Shoppix, HuYu, Storewards, snap my eats, zipzero. I’ve had payouts on all of them. Some won’t accept receipts from everywhere but I just upload all receipts if they don’t accept it that’s fine.
I use Fetch Rewards. It is an app on my iPhone.
I use shopprize, zipzero, panel app and VYPR for receipts or surveys. All adds up. Zipzero gives you money of household bills one you earn enough.
For the people that have several apps. Do you snap the same receipt on them all?
This is a good idea. I’ve missed a trick there, only been photographing on one app.
